The UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for Education in Prison aims to promote, stimulate and encourage research and innovative practices in the field of education in prisons and the carceral continuum.

The UNESCO Chair in Applied Research for Education in Prison

The Chair aims to intensify reflection and actions for education in prisons, at the local, national and international levels.
In addition to conducting research, the Chair acts as reference centre for promoting and encouraging research on the various dimensions of education in prisons.
The Chair disseminates research and innovative practices, communities of practice, action research and training activities for stakeholders from the various sectors concerned internationally.
It is the first UNESCO Chair to be established in a college and the only UNESCO Research Chair that focuses on the theme of education in the carceral continuum.
Vision
In complementarity with its mission, the UNESCO Chair aspires to strengthen, at the international level, the impact of applied research, expertise and partnerships that contribute to the continuous improvement of prison education systems in support of sustainable reintegration for incarcerated people. It also strives to be a reference centre, making knowledge, practices and innovation in the field of education in prisons available for everyone who would benefit from them.
